You said, we did: Listening to residents leads to real action in the Northern Quarter

Greater Manchester Police officers executed a warrant at a premises in Manchester city centre on (1 June 2026), following reports of drug dealing, anti-social behaviour, and associated criminality.

The warrant was carried out in partnership with Manchester City Council Trading Standards, Licensing and Anti-Social Behaviour teams, with support from Greater Manchester Police’s Specialist Operations Branch, including the Tactical Aid Unit (TAU) and Specialist Dog Unit.

Following the execution of a warrant at a business on Tib Street, one man, aged 56, was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods, possession of an offensive weapon, and possession with intent to supply Class C drugs.

At a separate address in North Manchester, a second man, aged 23, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs and possession of an offensive weapon.

A third man, aged 23, was also later arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs.

Inspector Kam Hare, from Greater Manchester Police’s City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team, said:

“We have listened carefully to the concerns raised by residents and businesses across the Northern Quarter, who have reported persistent issues linked to drug-related activity and anti-social behaviour.

These concerns were reinforced at our recent PACT (Police and Communities Together) meeting, which was attended by 45 residents and business representatives from the Northern Quarter.

Acting on that information and intelligence, officers executed a warrant targeting those believed to be involved in criminal activity in the area.

On Thursday 4 June 2026, we attended Manchester Magistrates’ Court and were successful in securing a Closure Order. This demonstrates the strength of the evidence gathered and ensures that this premises cannot continue to be used in a way that harms the community.

As part of this action, officers have secured a Closure Order under Section 80 of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 at the Tib Street premises. The order prohibits access to the property and will remain in force until 23:59 on 3 September 2026, with only limited exceptions for the property owner and authorised persons carrying out maintenance or removing stock.

Anyone who enters or remains on the premises in breach of the order commits a criminal offence and may face imprisonment.

This enforcement action follows ongoing concerns raised by residents and businesses across the Northern Quarter, particularly in relation to drug dealing, drug misuse, and associated anti-social behaviour. 

We will continue working closely with partners to gather intelligence, take targeted enforcement action, and ensure Manchester city centre remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone.”
